Based on the original Provox HME, Atos created a device that also filters inhaled air. It uses electrostatic filter material to catch charged particles in a filtering grid with less breathing resistance for the same efficiency and volume. Independent lab tests shows a bacterial and viral filtration greater than 99%! Infectious diseases carried by airborne pathogens can be especially problematic for those who have diminished pulmonary capacity or a compromised immune system. After a total laryngectomy, the air no longer passes through the natural air conditioner provided by the nose and mouth. Unfiltered, cold, dry air is inhaled through the tracheostoma directly to the lungs, which means the protection against harmful airborne pathogens is decreased. The Provox Micron HME drastically reduces the level of these submicron particles -- bacteria, viruses, dust and pollen -- while providing warm, moist air to the pulmonary system. This is indispensable when on an airplane, during cold and flu season, allergy season, around family members, while visiting a hospital or being active in a dusty environment (like cutting grass). Discreet with a soft skin tone plastic housing, the Micron connects to any of the attachment devices in the Provox HME System. The Micron is also occludable for TE speech. Available in packages of 5 or 30 disposable cassettes. Base Plates: The Provox® Micron HME cassette is held in place by an adhesive "base plate". The adhesive and shape of the base plate is very important since its primary purpose is to hold the HME and seal it tightly against your skin. Also, if the base plate does not stick to the skin tightly, some of the exhaled air will leak out during speech, resulting in a weaker voice and/or distracting noises. Base plate adhesives:
